A little history
A Roman road, which ran from Condevincum (Blain) to Juliomagus (Angers), known as the "Chemin de la duchesse Anne", passes through the commune. According to A. Marteville and P. Varin, in 1843 it was in a good state of preservation, being 6 metres wide, and its paving is well preserved in many places. It is possible that the battle of Jengland, which in 851 pitted the Frankish troops of Charles le Chauve against the Bretons of Erispoë, took place at Grand-Fougeray.
