A little history
Following the landings of 6 June 1944 in Normandy, Leslie Fischer, an American machine-gunner sergeant whose B 24 bomber had been hit by a German fighter and the German anti-aircraft defences at la Belle-Épine in Vezin-le-Coquet (Ille-et-Vilaine), parachuted onto Gévezé on 12 June 1944. He came down near the farm of Casnuel, where he was taken in by Justine Rué, who immediately informed the baker of Gévezé, Denis Morel. The latter, accompanied by Roger Rouault, a refugee from Rennes, and a Mr Demay, an English-speaking commercial traveller who was passing through Gévezé, immediately made his way to the farm of Casnuel to recover the airman.
