Générac, the town
Générac covers 24.3 km², lies between 29 and 144 m above sea level and had 4,046 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Générac is a French commune situated in the south-east of the département of Gard, in the région of Occitanie. The village is located to the south of the city of Nîmes, in the natural region of the Costières. It developed in a geographical area that has been frequented by people for many centuries.
A little history
It is known today with certainty that the site of Générac was already frequented during the Upper Palaeolithic. Evidence of this includes flint flakes (among them a typical carinated scraper) found in the vicinity of the puech de Dardaillon. The development of Générac during the ancient period, through the possible presence of a Roman villa, has to this day never been demonstrated by archaeology. The place name alone therefore gives rise to speculation about its origins.
