Frasne [fʀɑːɴ] is a French commune situated in the département of Doubs, the cultural and historical region of Franche-Comté and the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Its inhabitants are known as the Frasnois and Frasnoises or, in Arpitan, the Fraignauds and Fraignaudes.
A little history
The village was dependent on the seigneury of La Rivière for the town and on that of Nozeroy for the waters and forests. A Roman road passed near the village, more precisely at Sous-le-Pré-de-Bry, at Pouaille and at Es-Libard (les Liébards). In the vicinity of this road there was a fountain surrounded by dressed stone called the Puit-de-Fraigneau (at the lieu-dit Frainiau). Between the village and Bief-du-Fourg there stood a boundary stone named La pierre-qui-vire. The fief comprised, in addition to the town, l'Étang-Vieux or Moulin-de-Chiérel, les Moulins-Vieux, les Moulins-neufs, le Moulin-de-Paroy, la Scie-Besancenet, le Lac-de-l'Écoulant and la Grange de Cessay.
