Fonsorbes, Fonts Òrbas in Occitan, is a French commune situated in the north of the département of Haute-Garonne, in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune is in the Pays toulousain, which extends around Toulouse along the valley of the Garonne, bordered to the west by the hills of the Savès, to the east by those of the Lauragais and to the south by those of the valley of the Ariège and the Volvestre. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Touch, the Ousseau, the ruisseau l'Ayguebelle, the Merdagnou, the ruisseau du houssat and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
The territory of the commune shows signs of occupation from prehistoric times, as attested by the Trutat collection at the Muséum de Toulouse. The origins of Fonsorbes lie around the middle of the 11th century, when Count Sanche 1er d'Astarac gave the Knights of Saint-Jean de Jérusalem lands at Fonsorbes (fountains in a circle) on which to build a commandery whose first commander was Forton de Hautefage. The history of Fonsorbes is marked by numerous episodes[Which ones?], but few vestiges of its past remain. The town of Fonsorbe was subsequently founded as an ecclesiastical bastide.
