Feurs [fœʁ] is a French commune situated in the département of la Loire, in the région of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Its inhabitants are known as the Foréziens and Foréziennes.
A little history
A village from the La Tène period (second Iron Age) existed prior to Roman Gaul Feurs, alongside a similar site at Goincet, 1.7 km north-north-west of the village of Poncins and 4 km on the left bank (western side) of the Loire. However, Goincet was abandoned with the arrival of the ancient period, whilst the village on what is now Feurs, whose centre is located at the hippodrome, flourished and became under Augustus (27 BC to AD 14) the capital of the Ségusiaves, their previous capital being unknown.
