Fesches-le-Châtel is a French commune situated in the département du Doubs, the cultural and historical region of Franche-Comté and the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The inhabitants are known as the Feschois and the Feschoises.
A little history
The discovery of artefacts (tiles, bricks…) and ancient roads is proof of human presence on the banks of the Feschotte from the Gallo-Roman period. In the 12th century, a castle was built on a motte-and-bailey mound dominating the confluence of the Feschotte and the Allan. Two lordships divided the current communal lands between them. The seigneurie de Bélieu held the hamlet of Fesches Moulin, which was destroyed by the Bâlois in 1410. The seigneurie de Cusance held the old village with its castle, its mill and the hamlet du Magny, destroyed in 1460.
