A little history
The territory of Eyguières has been inhabited since Prehistory, as evidenced by the grotte du Défens at the lieu-dit le Resquiadou, where human presence is attested in the Neolithic period. Collective burials were found there. Two sites may be noted as stations of the final Neolithic, la Patouillarde and les Barres. Approximately 1 km to the north of the tour des Opies, the quartier de la Patouillarde is home, on a steeply sloping piece of land, to an oppidum that overlooks the road from Eyguières to Eygalières as well as the Fossé Meyrol, a natural watercourse already present during Antiquity.
