Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the canal de Berry, the Airin, the Auron, the ruisseau de l'Étang de Fond Bon, the ruisseau des Marais and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage comprising one Natura 2000 site and four natural zones of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
The site of Dun-sur-Auron has been the subject of Celtic occupation since the end of the Bronze Age and the beginning of the 1st Iron Age. Cremation pits, covered by tumuli, were unearthed during excavations carried out in the second half of the 20th century within the plain known as La Périsse, on the outskirts of Dun. The viaticum gathered from these funerary structures of the final Bronze Age / Hallstatt A1 period is composed amongst other things of bracelets, sword blades and torques with triangular relief decoration.
