Dévoluy, the town
Dévoluy covers 186.4 km², lies between 950 and 2,755 m above sea level and had 932 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Dévoluy (official name) or Le Dévoluy (local name) is a French commune in the département of Hautes-Alpes, in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It was established as a commune nouvelle on 1 January 2013 through the merger of the four communes of the former canton of Dévoluy, namely Agnières-en-Dévoluy, La Cluse, Saint-Disdier and Saint-Étienne-en-Dévoluy, which is its chief town.
A little history
In order to pool the resources of four sparsely populated communes, two of which have ski resorts, they decided to merge at the initiative of Jean-Marie Bernard, then president of the communauté de communes du Dévoluy which grouped them together and mayor of Saint-Étienne-en-Dévoluy. The prefectoral orders of 13 March and 2 October 2012 officially created the commune nouvelle du Dévoluy, which took effect on 1 January 2013.
