A small peri-urban town situated at the northern tip of the Paris urban area, the commune lies 35 km north of Paris, surrounded by the forêt de Chantilly and to the south of the Chantilly conurbation. It forms an integral part of the parc naturel régional Oise-Pays de France.
A little history
45 million years ago, the current site of Coye-la-Forêt was bathed by the Thanetian Sea, of which the poudingue de Coye remains, a mixture of sand and flint pebbles solidified by water. Based on archaeological finds, it is likely that the area was occupied by humans as early as the Neolithic period, but the first written record found concerning Coye dates only to 797, relating to the donation of properties belonging to Count Theudaldix, a vassal of Charlemagne, to the abbaye de Saint-Denis. One must wait until 1138 to find a second document, relating to the attribution of revenues from the church of Coye to the prieuré de Saint-Nicolas d'Acy.
