A little history
It is in the commune of Courthézon that the oldest Neolithic site in France was discovered in 1971 at the « Mourre de Pradel » on the site of Baratin. It has been dated to the 6th millennium before our era and is situated on the western edge of the plain of l'Ouvèze, between the hilly massif of Châteauneuf-du-Pape to the east, where it forms « a finger-shaped zone penetrating the massif », and the molassic terraces of Carpentras to the west. For the first time, its inhabitants, who had left caves and shelters to settle on the plain and build huts, practised farming and agriculture.
