Chaville covers 3.6 km², lies between 63 and 173 m above sea level and had 20,594 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Chaville is a French commune situated in the Hauts-de-Seine département in the Île-de-France region, along the main axis between the south-west of Paris and Versailles. Chaville, located in the western suburbs of Paris on the road to Versailles, has a remarkable forest heritage. Half of its territory is occupied by the forêt de Meudon and the forêt de Fausses-Reposes, a legacy of the hunting grounds of the kings of France.
A little history
Between 811 and 831, the Bishop of Paris, Ichad or Inchadus, created a hamlet called Inchadivilla for the convalescence of patients from the Hôtel-Dieu. In 1654, the secretary to the king and chancellor of France Michel Le Tellier was lord of Chaville and Viroflay. His son, Louvois, minister of war under Louis XIV, had the Château de Chaville built, inspired by the Versailles of Louis XIII. It replaced one of the three former feudal castles.
