A little history
A fortress was built around the year one thousand in this place, which lay on the boundary of the viscountcy of Bourges and the lordship of Déols, and therefore on the frontier between the part of Berry facing Aquitaine and the part that was under the influence of the house of Blois-Champagne. On 18 January 1038, the lord of Déols-Châteauroux, Eudes Ier de Déols, defeated an army led by the archbishop of Bourges Aymon de Bourbon, who wished to enforce the Peace of God by force of arms. Following this victory, Châteauneuf became the possession of the family of Déols-Châteauroux. On 10 August 1183, the mercenary leader Raymond Brun died at Châteauneuf-sur-Cher.
