A little history
Excavation of the site of la Goultière made it possible to identify clay extraction activity, corresponding to a dolérite outcrop, dating from the 6th century or the beginning of the 5th century BC. The route of the former RN 157 (currently the RD 857 in Ille-et-Vilaine), passing through Châteaubourg, broadly corresponds to the route of the former Roman road running from Vindunum (Le Mans) to Condate (Rennes).
