A little history
Legend has it that the Foulletot, a devil dressed in red, roamed the lands of Chalindrey and the pays langrois and was feared by the peasants. According to local belief, the Foulletot lived on the hill of Cognelot where he presided over the sabbath of wizards and witches, who came from the surrounding villages. A merciless war was however waged in the region against those accused of sorcery. One of its inhabitants, Clément Rabiet, was thus declared a sorcerer and hanged in 1598 for having boasted of meeting the Devil.
