Buis-les-Baronnies [bɥi le baʁɔni] is a French commune situated in the département of the Drôme in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its inhabitants are known as the Buxois. The communal territory is situated in the parc naturel régional des Baronnies provençales.
A little history
Le Buis is the former capital of the Gaulish tribe of the Boxsani (confederation of the Voconces). The future mandement du Buis was probably inhabited by the Bocx(ani), mentioned alongside the Noiomagenses (inhabitants of Nyons) in an inscription discovered at Tain. The place was called Arx Apollinaris by the Romans. Generally speaking, from the 11th century onwards, the villages of the Baronnies came under the baronnie de Mévouillon and the baronnie de Montauban.
