A little history

From the early eleventh century until the Revolution, Bretteville was under the authority of the abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel. The domaine de la Baronnie, whose origins predate the tenth century, became the property of the abbey in 1015 as a gift from the duchess Gonnor, wife of the duke of Normandie Richard Ier, and therefore great-great-grandmother of Guillaume le Conquérant. The commune is crossed by the route de Bretagne. Until the middle of the twentieth century, the commune developed around two poles, one to the east around the église Notre-Dame and another further to the west, around the domaine de la Baronnie.
