A little history
Bresles was formerly the summer residence of the bishops of Beauvais. Following the continental blockade under the First Empire and the development of the method of extracting sugar from beetroot by Benjamin Delessert (invented by Jean-Baptiste Quéruel), a sugar refinery was founded at Bresles in 1836 at the lieu-dit Le Calvaire. Two years later, on 23 January 1838, the Société anonyme de la fabrique de sucre de Bresles was created, whose first director was Stanislas Delacour.
