A little history
Excavations carried out on the site of the Main Delle have uncovered the remains of a significant Gaulish camp that can be described as aristocratic. The église Saint-Vigor de Bourguébus and the chapelle Saint-Jean de la Hogue were under the patronage of the prieuré Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Chesnaye, situated at Saint-Vigor-le-Grand, near Bayeux. There also existed at Bourguébus the prieuré Saint-Germain, belonging to the order of Saint-Augustin and dependent on the prieuré des Deux-Amants, situated at Amfreville-sous-les-Monts. The village is situated on a ridge that was to be a site of fighting in the summer of 1944 during the bataille de Normandie, the crête de Bourguébus.
