Bourg-Argental [buʁk‿aʁʒɑ̃tal] is a French commune situated in the département of Loire, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is a rural commune, classified as very sparsely populated by the INSEE. It forms part of the aire d'attraction of Annonay, in Ardèche.
A little history
The seigneurie d'Argental is created in 844 when Archimbault, comte de Vienne, offers the lands of Argental to one of his vassals. A castle will be built at Argental, whilst three kilometres away the bourg d'Argental, the present-day town, was taking shape. In the 15th century, Marguerite de Montchenu sells her lands to Jean II de Bourbon, comte de Forez. He then decides to raise Bourg-Argental to the rank of bailli.
