Beure, the town
Beure covers 4 km², lies between 234 and 480 m above sea level and had 1,305 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Beure is a French commune situated in the Doubs department, in Franche-Comté, in the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
A little history
The history of the locality has been known since the 13th century. The rocky cirque that shelters it, the river le Doubs and the ruisseau des Mercureaux contributed to the gathering of populations, first around caves, then around plaster works and finally in the plain, where the recent discovery of skeletons proves that the site has been inhabited for a very long time. The village is situated on a Roman road, or more likely a Gaulish road, as its ruts correspond to the width of the wheel rims of the carts used by the Gauls.
