Baugy is a French commune situated in the département of Cher, in the région of Centre-Val de Loire. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Yèvre, the Vauvise, the Craon, the Bondonne, the Tartecout, the Tribaut, the Marges and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage composed of three natural zones of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
The history of the village appears to date back to the period following the capture of Avaricum by Jules César. A necropolis discovered in 1848–1849 at the lieu-dit Alléans, approximately one kilometre to the east of the village, yielded around thirty funerary steles over an area of nearly one hectare. Most of them are today on display at the musée du Berry in Bourges. The cremation practised at Alléans left behind numerous funerary urns, the oldest of which, relatively few in number, came from Italy and date from the Augustan period (27 BC – 14 AD).
