A little history
The prieuré Notre-Dame-de-Bain is mentioned for the first time in 1152. It was dependent on the Abbaye Saint-Melaine de Rennes and is cited on several occasions in the cartulary of that abbey. In 1287 the monks surrendered to Geoffroy de Châteaubriant, as part of an exchange, all their rights over the inhabitants of Bain and Messac and the lands they possessed, whilst retaining the tithes and the spiritual rights of the priory. This agreement was approved by Guillaume de La Roche-Tanguy, then bishop of Rennes, who came in person to Bain on that occasion.
