Aussonne (Aussona in Occitan) is a French commune situated in the north of the département of Haute-Garonne in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the pays toulousain, which extends around Toulouse along the Garonne valley, bordered to the west by the hills of the Savès, to the east by those of the Lauragais and to the south by those of the Ariège valley and the Volvestre. Exposed to a modified oceanic climate, it is drained by the Aussonnelle, the ruisseau du Panariol and various other small watercourses.
A little history
The origin of Aussonne is very ancient, with no document making it possible to determine the period of its founding. In 1148 Aussonne is mentioned in the cartulary of the lords of l'Isle-en-Jourdain. In 1150 the feudal rights of Aussonne were exchanged between several lords until 1217, the date at which it entered the patrimony of the convent of Lespinasse. In 1235 the Comte de Toulouse, Raymond VII, acquired it from the duchy of Aquitaine in order to extend his comtal territory.
