A little history
From its Gaulish and Gallo-Roman occupation were found an ancient cemetery on the mound to the north, discovered in 1837 and 1848, a Christian cemetery (?) within the castle enclosure, and objects including a bronze statuette and stone ex-votos that were taken from the Aube. Saint Balsème, or Baussange, (Latin, Balsemius), was martyred in 407 at La Doré near the Fontaine du Bouillonnement. Saint Victor was a hermit and confessor at Arcis-sur-Aube in the 6th century. During the same period, a local coinage in the name of Leudericus and Daovaldus was produced.
