Anet (pronounced [a.nɛt]) is a French commune situated in the département of Eure-et-Loir, in the région of Centre-Val de Loire. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Eure and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage comprising a Natura 2000 site and a natural zone of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
During the Gaulish period, the location of Anet formed part of the territory of the Carnutes, a people who occupied the country contained within the dioceses of Chartres, Blois and Orléans, as they existed before 1790. The land of the Carnutes was at that time almost entirely covered by forests, and Anet was included within the forest of Crothais, known today as the forest of Dreux. Under the Merovingians (6th and 8th centuries), the forests thinned, the civitas of the Carnutes, more populous, divided into several districts (pagi) governed by a count.
