Aimargues is a French commune situated in the département of Gard, in the région of Occitanie. It is part of the Petite Camargue. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Vidourle, the Cubelle, the Rhony and by another watercourse.
A little history
The name Aimargues derives from Armacianicum, a fifth-century villa mentioned for the first time in 813 in the cartulary of the Benedictine abbey of Psalmody. The population was spread across the many other villæ of the territory, Saint-Sylvestre-de-Teillan to the south, Saint-Michel-de-Varanègues to the west, Saint-Gilles-de-Missignac, Saint-Roman-de-Malaspelles to the north, Saint-Cirice de Margues and above all Saint-Saturnin de Nodel to the east.
