A little history
The origins of Yvetot, and more particularly of the royaume d'Yvetot, remain obscure and numerous hypotheses have been put forward. One thing is certain, at the XIVe and XVe siècles, official documents do indeed mention the title of roi d'Yvetot. The name Yvetot is cited for the first time in a donation charter from the duc de Normandie Richard II, in 1021, to the monks of the abbaye de Saint-Wandrille. Several families (including the famille d'Yvetot until 1401) held the seigneurie d'Yvetot, with the title of king (or prince, notably from Martin du Bellay onwards, around 1551).
