A little history
In the Gallo-Roman period, the Camp de César or "Cité de Limes", situated to the north of the present-day city of Dieppe, is a Gallo-Roman enclosure that attests to the oldest known human presence in the Dieppe area. A few rare remains of Gaulish pottery and weapons bear witness to this still little-known period. In 910, the Vikings settled at the mouth of the Tella, a deep river that flows into the sea. They nicknamed it Djúpr meaning "the deep" or Djúpá meaning "the deep river".
