The commune was created on 1 January 2016 by a prefectoral order of 16 October 2015, by the merger of two communes, under the legal framework of communes nouvelles established by law no 2010-1563 of 16 December 2010 on the reform of local authorities. The communes of Rouffigny and Villedieu-les-Poêles became communes déléguées and Villedieu-les-Poêles is the chef-lieu of the nouvelle commune.
