A little history
The presence of Gaulish tribes is attested at Donville by excavations carried out near the cemetery. Donville lay on the Roman road between Coutances and Saint-Pair. It was on the site of an ancient Roman villa, at the location of the present-day cimetière Saint-Clair, that saint Clair is said to have settled and founded a monastery at the end of the 9th century. Saint Clair is believed to have been born at Olchestria, in England, around the year 845.
