Toucy is a French commune situated in the département of Yonne, in the région of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Toucy is the birthplace of Pierre Larousse. Its inhabitants, known as the Toucycois, are part of the Poyaudins, the inhabitants of the terroir of the Puisaye to which Toucy belongs.
A little history
Archaeological excavations carried out in the 20th century demonstrated the presence of flint-knapping workshops around 13,000 to 18,000 years before our era near the present-day town (to the north of la Glaudonnerie, near the chemin de la Vau-Laurier and close to the ferme des Hatus). In the 1990s, a bronze axe dated to 3,000 years BC was discovered by chance 2 km to the east of Toucy. During the few centuries preceding our era, the regions of Toucy, Saint-Fargeau and Lavau were already very active Celtic centres for the production of iron in low-shaft furnaces.
