A little history
Under the Ancien Régime, Saint-Florentin held the title of Vicomté (later Comté), it came under the intendance of Paris. It was the seat of an élection, a bailliage and a maréchaussée, and had a grenier à sel and barracks. Saint-Florentin was a Gallo-Roman post called Castrodunum. At the crossroads of Roman roads, Jules César is said to have pitched his tent at La Trecey (the name of which is thought to derive from Atrium caesaris), and the town of Avrolles was built at the foot of the ancient oppidum of Eburobriga, one of whose ramparts can still be seen.
