Seyne is a French commune, located in the département of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, in the région of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. The official name of the commune, as recorded by the Code officiel géographique published by l'Insee, is Seyne. However, the name Seyne-les-Alpes is used locally, without having so far been confirmed by a decree.
A little history
Seyne was, before the Roman conquest, the capital of the Adanates/Édénates. It obtained the status of civitas under the Roman Empire. In the Middle Ages, it appears in charters in 1146 (in Sedena), when Raimond-Bérenger IV de Barcelone subdued the rebellious Provençal barons (guerres baussenques). After seizing Arles, he summoned the lords of Haute-Provence to Seyne, where they renewed their oath of allegiance. The lords were the counts of Provence, who endowed it with a consulat as early as 1223 (1220 according to André Gouron), which served as a model for all the surrounding consulats.
