A little history
The archaeological sites at Pucheuil have confirmed a human presence during the middle Palaeolithic. The territory of the commune was inhabited during the Iron Age and then the Gallo-Roman period. Around the year 674, Sidoine de Jumièges founded the monastery on the land that is now Saint-Saëns. The monk Sidoine (or Sidonius, Sidoneus, Saen, Saëns) is referred to as de Jumièges because he came from the abbaye de Jumièges founded by saint Philibert, with whom he was close.
