A little history
During the interwar period, the Sanatorium marin des Grandes-Dalles stood in the area. Located along the beach at Grandes-Dalles and sheltered from the prevailing winds by the cliff, this sanatorium took in children suffering from glandular or bone tuberculosis (including Mal de Pott). A more effective alternative to hospitalisation, it was at once a place of care, life and education for children who could stay there for several years. It was inaugurated in 1924, enlarged in 1931, evacuated during the Second World War and finally blown up by the German army on 21 September 1943.
