Saint-Bris-le-Vineux [sɛ̃ bʁi lə vinø] is a French commune situated in the département of l'Yonne in the région of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
A little history
During the French Revolution, the commune, which bore the name Saint-Bris, was provisionally renamed Bris-le-Vineux. The suffix « le Vineux » dates from the Revolution and relates to its viticultural vocation. Saint Prix was a military man, a Catholic and martyr of the 3rd century who fled persecution and came to settle in the forests of Puisaye with companions, Christian soldiers under his command. Pursued by the Roman authorities, the community was massacred around the year 274 and saint Prix was beheaded, near a village that would subsequently take the name of Saints.
