A little history
The town is home to two churches, the église Saint-Germain, dating from the 14th century, and above all the église Notre-Dame-Outre-L'Eau, considered one of the oldest churches in France. Rugles was occupied by the English from 1417 to 1450. In 1590, it served as a refuge for the Ligueurs and was devastated and pillaged. The metallic stone found in its subsoil has allowed Rugles to become a highly important centre for the manufacture of nails, pins and then needles.
