A little history
According to the Roman de Rou by Wace, a Norman poet of the 12th century, Hasting, together with Bjorn, two Norman chiefs, landed, at the end of the 9th century, at the mouth of the Saire at Réville (Revonminic), and devastated the region, burning Abillant and the château de Garillant, on the mont Haguez. According to Guillaume de Jumièges, it was near Réville, to the north of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, that around the year one thousand, an army sent by the King of England, Æthelred le Malavisé, landed at the mouth of the Saire, in order to devastate the Cotentin of Richard II de Normandie, whom he accused of maintaining friendly relations with the Scandinavians that were then overwhelming England.
