Ravières is a French commune situated in the département of Yonne, in the région of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It is crossed by the canal de Bourgogne.
A little history
Called Ribarias in the 8th century, then Raverias in the 12th century, and sometimes Rabiera. Ravières was a fortified fief of the comté de Tonnerre. The fortified enclosure surrounding it was razed in 1591, as was the maison forte situated at its centre, but the village still retains traces of that period (late 15th, early 16th century), including old houses and remnants of the enclosure. In the 17th century, the Clermont family were marquises de Cruzy and lords of Ravières.
