Petit-Caux is a new French commune situated in the département of Seine-Maritime in the Normandie region. Created on 1 January 2016 by prefectural order of 26 November 2015 with the administrative status of commune nouvelle, it was born from the merger of the eighteen communes that had grouped together in the former communauté de communes du Petit Caux, Assigny, Auquemesnil, Belleville-sur-Mer, Berneval-le-Grand, Biville-sur-Mer, Bracquemont, Brunville, Derchigny, Glicourt, Gouchaupre, Greny, Guilmécourt, Intraville, Penly, Saint-Martin-en-Campagne, Saint-Quentin-au-Bosc, Tocqueville-sur-Eu, Tourville-la-Chapelle.
A little history
On 19 August 1942, during the Second World War, the "opération Jubilee", involving an Allied landing at Dieppe and at other sites in Seine-Maritime (including the current territory of Petit-Caux), was a deadly failure, notably for the Canadian forces. A commemorative monument erected in 1946, thanks to a subscription launched by the inhabitants of Penly and renovated in 2017, recalls this battle. The commune nouvelle stems from the merger of the communes that had united in 1982 to form the communauté de communes du Petit Caux, whose history is closely linked to the establishment of the central nucléaire de Penly.
