A little history
There was in the locality a feudal castle, at least since the middle of the 12th century, which at the time of duc Henri was the possession of Robert de Leicester († 1168), and which became a royal castle where Philippe Auguste resided for three days before his death, which occurred on 14 July 1223. In 1360, during the Hundred Years' War, the town along with those of Mantes, Meulan and Rolleboise were the possession of the king of Navarre Charles le Mauvais. Pacy-sur-Eure was under the Ancien Régime a staging post for stagecoaches on the Caen-Paris route. The Federalist army, before its defeat at Brécourt against the republicans on 13 July, occupied the town on 1 July 1793.
