Naves is a French commune situated in the département of Corrèze, in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Its inhabitants are called the Navarois and the Navaroises.
A little history
During the Gaulish period, the commune was situated at the centre of an area of 30 km radius comprising numerous gold and tin mines worked by the Lémovices. They had moreover built a temple on the site of Tintignac. During the Gallo-Roman era, the Gaulish village found itself at the crossroads of Roman roads between Armorique and Provence on one hand, and Lugdunum and Burdigala on the other, which allowed for its prosperity and the construction of further temples, a theatre, baths and many other buildings. In the 6th century, the site of Tintignac was abandoned and the population moved 1.5 km further south, to the location of the present-day village.
