A little history
This important medieval town was in 1059 the capital of the family of the seigneurs de Ventadour. From their imposing fortress, a true eyrie on a rocky peak whose remains (restored and consolidated) still bear witness to their power, the Ventadour family made the fortune of Égletons, secured its prosperity and were at the origin of a rich tradition of art and culture, that of the fin' amor, the poetry of the troubadours. Bernard de Ventadour, one of the most celebrated among them, gave voice across the whole of Europe to this refined courtly civilisation.
