Tulle is a commune in the centre-west of France, préfecture of the département of Corrèze in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The inhabitants of the town are called the Tullistes. Nicknamed the town of seven hills, the city built its reputation on the development of its industry and crafts, and became one of the centres of lace-making (with its international festival), arms manufacturing (Manufacture d'armes) and accordion production (Accordéons Maugein).
A little history
The origins of the town are still the subject of debate today. It appears that the current puy Saint-Clair, a rocky spur with steep slopes separating the valley of the Corrèze from that of the Solane, constituted an ideal location for the establishment of a Gaulish oppidum. For a long time, the town appears to have been an important crossroads at the intersection of routes between Armorique and the Mediterranean and between Aquitaine and the Massif central, with a ford allowing the Corrèze to be crossed at this point.
