Cublac is a French commune situated in the département of Corrèze, in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The commune is known for its former coal mining between 1781 and 1914, which left several remains. Its inhabitants are called the Cublacois.
A little history
In 935, a chapel annexed to the parish of Brignac was built at Cublac. Cublac in turn became a parish in 1107 and the church built there was consecrated in 1131 by the bishop of Limoges. Destroyed during the Wars of Religion, the current church, dedicated to saint Barthélemy, was rebuilt in 1490, then modified in the 19th century by the addition of the current portal and porch. Coal was discovered on 20 February 1766 thanks to the initiative of the intendant of the généralité of Limoges, Anne Robert Jacques Turgot.
