A little history
As far back as the Mesolithic period, the site of la Roche was inhabited, as evidenced by the scrapers and lithic points found on the site. Occupied by the Romans, Allassac already possessed several slate quarries which would allow the rapid development of the town. In 572, saint Yrieix and his mother donated a farming estate and forges to Allassac, which at that time formed part of the pays d'Yssandon. In the Carolingian period there already existed a fortified complex housing a church and a dwelling belonging to the abbots of Limoges, as well as a seigneurial dwelling.
