Montlhéry (pronounced [mɔ̃leʁi]) is a French commune situated in the département de l'Essonne in the Île-de-France region. A prominent town of the Hurepoix, fiefdom of the Montlhéry family since 991 and then a royal domain from 1118, Montlhéry is famous for its tower, the battle that took place there on 16 July 1465 and its strategic position on the major historic axis from Paris to Orléans, today the former route nationale 20. It gives its name to the military camp of the 121e régiment du train and, in part, to the autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry, both situated on the territories of nearby communes.
