Montivilliers (pronounced [mɔ̃tivije] or [mɔ̃tivilje]) is a French commune situated in the département of Seine-Maritime in the Normandie region. The commune is the second largest in the urban community known as Le Havre Seine Métropole by number of inhabitants, after Le Havre.
A little history
Archaeological research was carried out in the 1970s and revealed traces of life dating from the Palaeolithic period, with the existence of tribes that settled in the region, most probably attracted by the numerous streams and the abundance of game present at that time. Traces of Neolithic life are also worth noting, with the discovery of settlements on the plateau du Grand Epaville dating from 2500 to 1700 BC. Several Gaulish objects, jade and bronze axes, were found on the hillsides overlooking the town.
